Hallo zusammen,

Have one of these installed. By your question, it seems you will not be qualified to do it on your own.

I recommend hiring an electrician if you dont know what you’re doing.
If you really want to give it a go, get yourself a voltage tester (uni-t or benning) and identify the wires coming out from the wall. Do not trust the colors!
Regardless of what the previous tenant may have done, the maintenance company should absolutely return it to its original state. If there’s extra expense it should be paid by whoever owns the apartment.
Installing the socket is a simple matter of turning off the breaker, detaching the wires from the old light fixture and transferring them over to the socket. But if you’re not comfortable doing the work and are not sure what to do, it’s a good idea to hire an electrician. Mains voltage is no joke.

Contact your landlord. It’s their job to get it fixed (arrange, not in person). It is *plausible* that according to the vastuunjakotaulukko (chart of responsibilities) this kind of job belongs to the owner of the share in the particular housing company, which means the maintenance company is in the right to refuse the work (but the reason they gave you is the wrong one). Either way, as a tenant, you should really always just bug your landlord instead of the maintenance company directly for this kind of (non-urgent, non-life, health threatening or not potentially causing further property damage) work.
**Absolutely do not DIY** in your case. In addition to being *illegal* in Finland – you need to be qualified to do any permanent electrical fixtures, you do not know what you are doing since you need to ask in Reddit. Moreover, *you do not own the apartment*. You will be in a very nasty legal situation if anything goes wrong.
Whatever a previous tenant did, is not on you.
It’s the maintenance company’s duty to maintain the lighting sockets. If they’re refusing to do so, they’re in breach of contract.
Contact your landlord and inform them about this.
