      Putin, in his short note, called Gandhi the founder of modern independent India, a humanist, and a great freedom fighter.

      „Mahatma Gandhi made an invaluable contribution to the cause of peace on our planet through non-violence and truth, the influence of which remains relevant to this day. Mahatma Gandhi showed the path toward a new, fairer, multipolar world order that is now in the process of being formed. In his teachings on equality, mutual respect, and cooperation, India today – together with the people of the world – defends these very principles and values on the international stage,“ he wrote in Russian.

      He added, „Russia does the same.“

      Not sure exactly why this sub is complaining. When trump tried to sanction India for purchasing Russian oil, after it has repeatedly gone after trump for being a “Russian asset”, everyone here was screeching. Now it’s mad Putin is promoting the same bullshit Indians swallow like water? Pick a narrative

      Its just a convention. Gandhi doesn’t mean much to either the guest or the host country anymore. trump will say the same about Gandhi if he visits India or about Mandela when visiting south Africa which he has developed a secret liking for recently.
      The number of Indians who have a high opinion of Gandhi has been going down consistently, just that it’s still not politically prudent for any leader to criticize him openly.
