I don’t think most people care. When wages don’t match the cost of living, it’s hard to care about meeting environmental goals. Especially when our peers in other countries are all getting richer and we’re getting poorer.

Maybe instead of just quitting he should have tried to figure out ways that we still can.
Imagine you lead a department and your budget gets cut so you immediately say “can’t meet our goals now! I quit”

As much as I want to care for it. How could we when average and poor Canadians are suffering while the elites of Canada (I’m not talking about middle class to even upper class) are robbing us blind without contributing at the slightest and cutting all the corners they can while bribing people.
He’s likely not wrong that the 2030 goals aren’t attainable now, but they likely weren’t going to be attainable under the direction the Trudeau government was going either. It’s incredibly unfortunate but the Paris agreement being a likely goal to achieve took a massive hit during Trump’s first term because if the biggest economy in the world is actively against trying to decarbonize the world it’s a much harder lift for everyone else in their sphere of influence.
It’s a bit odd that the article terms him a defector given that I think he’s more likely than Jeneroux to vote for his party rather than just vanishing.
