As much as we’re going to have short and medium term pain getting weaned from the USA teat, I firmly believe we’ll be better off in the long run. Canada has resources, talent, and a culture well suited to international relationships. We’ve been complacent and lazy for too long, but we’re gonna get our mojo back.

I think a lot of Canadians originally understood the threat of tariffs to include CUSMA goods. Once the US clarified it was still going to respect the agreement, the potential damage was much more limited, so thankfully we still have positive GDP growth.

I am NOT looking forward to the outcome for either the US or Canada if Trump follows through on his threats on pulling out of CUSMA next year though – that’s going to deeply impact a hell of a lot more than the steel and auto industries.
