it’s pretty difficult to claim a pre-emptive cheat from Ottawa when separation is polling at 37%. It’s just a cheap stunt to go „rigged election“ if you already have a dismal chance of winning. If polling was even, or even just close then maybe you can take this route. But right now Ottawa doesn’t have to to anything and the referendum still fails.

    2. Typical PQ, though it should come as no surprise that they’ll claim a referendum is rigged when they’ve been doing that for the past 30 years. The PQ government at the time was doing the same things they cry foul at Ottawa doing, with much of the provincial government working for the „Oui“ side. Victim mentality is tough to break.

Pretty rich coming from the party that blatantly cheated in both of the previous referenda. They quite literally researched how to word a question in such a manner that „yes“ voters wouldn’t understand what they were voting yes to during the last one.

Seriously, imagine cheating and still losing twice then saying the other side would cheat if you did it a third time. Are they going to go back to blaming „money and the ethnic vote“ again next?

IMO this country should have a law where if a province have a separatist referendum and you lose everyone in cabinet goes to jail

At some stage Canada will probably need to do what Spain has done with Catalonia. Give it basically domain over everything in its region and butt out. At the same time, squash all the repetitive referendum talk that goes in circles and does actual harm. You can’t just keep running referendums until you get a result that pleases you and preemptively declare fraud.
