In den drei aktuellen sicherheitsbezogenen Dokumenten wird eine Anhebung der Verteidigungsausgaben auf 2 % des Bruttoinlandsprodukts (BIP) im Haushaltsjahr 2027 gefordert. Der vom Kabinett im Jahr 2022 verabschiedete Entwurf einer Steuerreform sieht eindeutig vor, dass die Einkommenssteuer, die Körperschaftssteuer und die Tabaksteuer erhöht werden, um diese Erhöhung zu finanzieren.

I just have to laugh at the Japanese who hated Kishida for rising taxes for this exact „muh national security!!!“ purpose in 2023 but now love Takaichi for it. Optics really have become everything in politics.
It’s probably just a fake article anyway. It is way too inconsistent with Prime Minister Takaichi’s consistent plans regarding taxation. According to reporters who actually have access to Takaichi and her circle, the mainstream media says they can’t get any coverage of the Prime Minister’s inner circle. They spread misinformation about taxes regarding the budget estimates last time, too.
Yahoo Japan comment section is hilarious on this topic. If you read any „China bad“ articles, all the comments say „We need to expand our military immediately!“.
Then you read this article about increasing income tax to fund military, and all the comments are „No, don’t raise my taxes! There are other ways to fund this!“.
