Technically the government can make the day 1 promise a reality in a seperate bill and have until 2029 (unless early election) to do so. Admittidly i find it unlikely but it is possible
Personally I think it should return back to being a year.
But I think changing it to 6 months isn’t going to do much good if it takes years for the case to be heard.
There’s already a two year delay, I can see it hitting 4-5 years with this change.
Even someone as pro-union and workers rights as me is prepared to acknowledge giving people these protections from day 1 is insane, glad they changed it. This is the best of both worlds.
It just means people will lose their jobs after 5 month if they aren’t the right fit, or aren’t performing as expected over that timeframe.
2 years allowed a company to train someone and allow the employee to show improvement.
Shame of a government.
Promise broken and the watered down measure won’t be effective until they’ve been in power a full 2.5 years. Assuming there’s not further delays.
Another way to mess up the already sluggish economy.
