Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and the Netherlands said Thursday they will withdraw from next year’s Eurovision Song Contest after organizers voted to allow Israel to participate, deepening a growing rift within the international broadcasting competition.
The announcements followed a meeting of the European Broadcasting Union, where several countries urged Israel’s exclusion over its conduct of the war in Gaza and allegations of interference in contest voting.
Spain’s public broadcaster said Israel’s inclusion was “no longer compatible” with its responsibilities, while Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS also cited ethical concerns. The decisions mark the latest upheaval for Eurovision, which has struggled for two years to shield the popular contest from geopolitical tensions surrounding the war.

The logic behind Russia ban is that multiple European countries threatened to boycott if they were not due to their aggressive invasion of Ukraine. We heard this over and over leading into the 2025 contest.
Now that multiple countries have actually boycotted on account of Israel’s brutal genocide… well let’s grab the popcorn and see how some people try to continue to side with the non European country led by convicted war criminals.
It will also be interesting to see if this thread stays up, or is deemed „not relevant to Europe.“
It’s time the world does this to all corrupt events.

I am disappointed at the countries that aren’t boycotting it. Seems like majority of Europe still stands with Genocide.

The way that the EBU managed to achieve this was by making the vote on Israel’s participation conditional on not passing a bunch of objectively good rule changes and voting reforms, which did get passed, letting them claim that clearly most broadcasters think this is good enough.
Everybody should boycott it.

A statement from RTÉ said: „Following today’s EBU Winter General Assembly in Geneva at which Israel’s participation in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest was confirmed, RTÉ’s position remains unchanged. RTÉ will not participate in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, nor will RTÉ broadcast the competition.
„RTÉ feels that Ireland’s participation remains unconscionable given the appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there, which continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk. RTÉ remains deeply concerned by the targeted killing of journalists in Gaza during the conflict and the continued denial of access to international journalists to the territory.“

While I have no criticism of this decision, I am worried about a return to a bipolar world that hasn’t existed since the Cold War ended. We were so worried about China’s economic success for the last few decades that we ignored the problems coming from within.
Israel now has more in common with other religious oligarchies like the Saudis or other nations than it does with much of Europe. trump is moving towards installing conservative or libertarian governments throughout the Americas, where the main criteria for influence is being in the billionaire’s club. Brexit is a disaster, yet England cannot look at itself honestly in the mirror. Russia will prevail in Ukraine in the end without Western opposition, and it remains to be seen if Europe will fill the hole that trump will eventually leave.
Who will work with the EU to protect democracy and human rights? Will a libertarian/nationalist bloc from to oppose you all?
Please keep pushing for what you know is right, because my American government certainly is not going to.

Idk how European is a contest that values some Middle eastern shithole more than Spain, Netherlands or Ireland.
We should all boycot it this year. They can make it into IsraelVision and compete with just themselves – and invite Trumptler and Putler, they great friends to join in.
