fun fact, DC has never voted republican. goes to show that republicans are not the right choice

    2. Minnesota is an interesting one. Why are they so blue compared to Wisconsin and Iowa?

    3. Meanteenbirder on

Closest red state was Texas, which voted for Bush by 3.5 points in 1992. Closest blue state was Oregon, which voted for Gore by half a point in 2000

Amazing that has recently as 1988 VT voted GOP for President (governor is another story as VT GOP is centrist) – the influx of flatlanders was already in place but I guess enough of the old Yankees were holding on to give GHWB a win that year.

1988 was the last year that my current state of NJ voted GOP in a national election: closest since were W winning 46% in 2004 and Trump winning 47% in 2024. It’s worse for the GOP at the senate level however. NJ hasn’t elected a Republican to the senate since Clifford Case in 1972 (who had won his first term in 1954).

    6. Y’all member when reddit was absolutely convinced Texas was going to flip blue in 2014 and „republicans will probably never win another national election again“?

      Yeah that was funny.

    7. This isn’t really representative of political philosophy changes.

It should be a map of conservatives vs liberal or progressive candidates. Southern Democrats in the 90s were conservatives.

I dont think data from the 80s and 90s is very informing of what are now considered swing states

Kentucky set a record in 08 for being the fastest state called, and we’ve consistently been the first called ever since. I think you can firmly paint under at this point sadly.

Meh, in recent years California has been consistently democrat, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Meanwhile Minnesota has consistently voted democrat, but there’s been quite a few close calls there, especially recently.

Whenever these maps come out I have to point out that not all of Nebraska’s electoral votes go to the same candidate. District 1(omaha and lincoln) get our own electoral vote. It went to Biden and then Harris, respectively. Its not much, but we aren’t super solid red and its nice to have somewhat of a say as a dem.

Maine used to do the same, im not sure they still do. In my opinion all states should do this.

Patriots in Alaska, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansss, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina.

I mean Minnesota almost always votes like a swing state that the Democrats keep winning by like 0.000000001%.

    14. The fact we only have two parties and not a bunch of other views throughout politics and all the biased media is the biggest wtf in America

It’s the majority of the population and the majority has not one clue as to how the government is run. Take away their entitlement programs that the entire country pays taxes on and they scream like little children. Well here we are, grossly indebted and near collapse. Better learn Russian and Chinese cause as soon as we start to sink they will be on us like flies on Sh….t!

This is such a terrible map. The other side wins a single election in nearly 40 years and all of a sudden you’re in a „swing“ state lol.

    17. CantRaineyAllTheTime on

Montana has come up blue exactly once since 1980, not exactly a swing state.

    18. ChosenBrad22 on

This isn’t remotely accurate to current times. California is never going to vote a different direction. Same with other states as well. There are only about 7-8 actual swing states.

    19. Oooof, the election of Bush Sr is doing a LOT of heavy lifting in this map.

Start from Bush v Gore and get a *much* different map.

    20. HeroOfAlmaty on

Vermont, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Connecticut, Virginia, Delaware, Montana, West Virginia, Arkansas are all non-Swing States at this point.

There are almost 0 chances any of the first 7 would swing Republican, and any of the last 3 would swing Democrat in the next presidential election.

If anything, Rhode Island is turning more Red and might count as a Swing State.
