„*The trick here is simple and old. You starve the public systems until they’re so weak that anything looks like relief. Then you let a billionaire deliver a drop of water and call it a miracle. Americans have been trained to applaud the spectacle. They forget to ask why one of the richest men in the country gets to decide how twenty-five million children experience their first introduction to money. They forget to ask why the richest people get public praise for giving back pennies compared to what they extract. They forget to ask why children need investment accounts instead of stable housing, food, medical care, and schools that aren’t falling apart.*“

This is from the article and it says it all. Man they’re stealing us blind right in front of us.

    2. 3.6 million citizen babies born each year. $1000 for each is roughly $3.6 billion in annual expenses to fund the accounts if all babies receive them. The accounts cannot be drawn on for 18 years. So, we’ll spend more than $50 billion over 18 yrs before we see the first ROI and intended benefit of helping youn adults. We should instead spend that money on a plan that helps young adults NOW – not two decades from now.

Also, the expenses above do not even include the ongoing administrative costs from the government reviewing applications, setting up accounts, administering funds. , etc…. Not to mention the massive and likely potential for corruption from the fund manager. It’s going to be someone friendly to Trump and I can only imagine the types of companies getting massive stock boosts next year with fund favoring businesses like Dell for instance.

This is just another in long of great business ideas like Trump Steaks or Trump University. Trump Accounts – accounts so deep there is no bottom.

i barely registered that stupid announcement and I’m sure most people never did

    4. I disagree, the biggest heist/scam in America is our healthcare system. So great that we are the only one doing it. Elsewhere in the developed world people have healthcare systems that is cheaper and works better.

What happens when you vote in a pedo con man for a president.

He fucks over as many children as possible.

    6. Someone did the math on this. It’s like just under 300 per child. Annuitized over 20 years, that’s like under 2k per child. If they put that towards resources for children like nutrition and early childhood healthcare, that money would be far better spent. The difference is it won’t have a „Trump“ title blasted all over it.

    7. It’s not really surprising, though, is it? This is literally 401ks for babies. Except that, while you can continue to fund it after the initial investment, all of that money is post-tax, closer to an IRA. But then they’re going to tax the withdrawal at the end, like a 401k. And that’s assuming you have enough money to use it for one of the „approved“ expenses.

It’s literally doubling down on the system that got us the idea of „neverending accelerating profits every year or your company is a failure“ and trying to guarantee a prop-up for the stock market.

And the saddest part? While it is a terrible grift of a „handout“, parents would be stupid not to take part. I imagine they’re banking on those parents „loving“ their „free“ money so much that this gets to stick around indefinitely.

    8. This is some bullshit. We are under attack and it won’t stop until we are left destitute.

It seems like market manipulation too since they can only invest the money in American index funds. Or so I read.

Are these accounts treated the same as ABLE accounts which do not count as assets?

      >The cruelty of it is that it works. It works because people are tired. Everything’s expensive. Everything feels unstable. Families will take whatever crumbs show up because the alternative is nothing. They’re told this is opportunity. They’re told this is investment. They’re told this is how you get ahead. They don’t ask why a country with the wealth of America is giving children numbers in an account instead of conditions they can survive.

It also works because a large number of Americans are gullible and stupid and have tied their whole personality to republicans and an orange turd.

    12. Give the crowd droplets of water, tell them the water came from Immortan Joe. That’s how you bribe Joe with the only coin he cares about (adulation).

Much more powerful leverage than just chipping in to some ballroom fund. I’d admire its cleverness if that weren’t immoral

Every kid will get sent a credit card offer when they turn 18. It’s a marketing Trojan horse.

Just take a look at the Oklahoma Public School system where they’re trying to push the first for-profit religious schools that also get government funding. A complete, insane scam that took Oklahoma from 17th in the nation in education to 50th under the last ultra MAGA Superintendent. I live here and kids are borderline brain dead now. It’s so sad.

The billionaires can’t even give kids money without complaints anymore lol

You people don’t understand what that is….

Regardless of your views on moral conduct, this discussion is stupid.
