  1. The pledge by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to “work, work, work, work and work” for her country has been named the catchphrase of the year, recognizing the effort Japan’s first female leader had to make to reach the top.

The ultraconservative Takaichi uttered the phrase in October when she was elected as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Many were initially as worried about her work ethic as supportive of her enthusiasm.

In a country notorious for long working hours, especially for working women who are also burdened with homemaking and caregiving, overwork is a sensitive topic. The recognition triggered a mixed reaction, with some interpreting it as satire*.*

Um, no? Total PR bullshit. I don’t know a person here who wants to work MORE than they already do here in Japan, other than the top execs and LDP who want to throw you into a blender for profit. HMMMMM I wonder whose opinions are represented in this article???? The situation in the country is already AWFUL as a typical worker.

I mean, JEZ, look at even the profile of the journalist who „wrote“ this flattering piece on Takaichi’s BS. They look like they’ve been awake for like three days straight.

Tbh I have a Japanese friend like that. He’s a workaholic. If he doesn’t work, he doesn’t know what else to do.

He even said he loves the feeling of fatigue, and he could only be satisfied that way. Cuz fatigue is how he knows he’s worked hard

Idk if he’s an exception or there’s also Japanese people like that

  4. I get that Prime Minister Takaichi wants to “work, work, work, work and work” but don’t you think working all day is bad for your health?

Think about the [Karoshi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karoshi) phenomenon? Is that something the Prime Minister really wants to take as an example to her fellow countrypeople.

Maybe I’m just a sleep deprived hikikomori who doesn’t understand the concept of hard work. Our overseas counterparts probably work 10x harder than we do in the west.
