Putting all eggs in one bubble basket? Good luck with that, Micron.

Us consumer peasants are going to have to scrounge for parts in the data center scrapyard pretty soon.

When the next gen consoles come out, it’s going to cost more to upgrade the storage on them than the actual price of the console.

AI is as anti-consumer as a fucking plague

So what are they to do when the AI boom goes bust?

So they believe the bubble is too far along to devote creating new Fabs to make AI memory along with customer demand. But the bubble isn’t far enough that they can’t make a ton of money from pivoting right now to cash in the increased memory costs.
This is VERY risky move, if Micron refabs themselves to tool AI memory for data centers and the AI bubble pops short after or right before they finish. This will probably be the worst mistake in their companies history.
This is very much a „Put everything on black.“ moment in a Casino.
Retooling fabs to make components is VERY time consuming and VERY expensive.

Weird. This is pricing out consumers. Who will even be able to afford to utilize AI? Computers, consoles, and phones are going to cost too much to even bother with. Then all this AI just being unused except by governments?

Just remember it when AI hopefully fails and they try to crawl back

Competition being removed from the retail space is never good news…… I actually really like the Crucial brand, they make some really good products. I have one of their 2230 2TB SSDs in my Steam Deck as they were one of the only brands that had a good offering at the time, I also have one of their external SSDs which has been great.
It’s clear that AI is going to keep causing issues in the hardware market for some time to come.

We shouldn’t forget this. They should not be allowed to come back to the consumer market. This is a very big deal and the public consumer market should be up in arms and let Micron know it.

When will people start sabotaging data centers?
