Die Republikaner im Repräsentantenhaus schließen sich der AOC an und nutzen das Epstein-Aktenbuch, um eine Abstimmung über ein Aktienhandelsverbot zu erzwingen: „Die Hölle ist zugefroren“

    1. If you serve in Congress you shouldn’t be able to day trade stocks, full stop. Mike Johnson can fuck himself with his *“muh disincentivizing qualified people from office…”* fuck that, if not being able to trade turns someone off from serving in the legislature then their hearts weren’t in service to begin with.

    2. Johnson has been such a bad leader that he has gone beyond not getting anything done, to piss off his side enough for force things through.

      >A group of renegade House Republicans and Democrats deployed the same procedural trick used to force a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein files to wrangle a vote on a measure to ban members of Congress from trading stocks.

      >Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) filed her discharge petition to force the vote on her legislation, a proposal that has been supported by an unexpected coterie of members ranging from progressives like liberal darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to archconservatives like Rep. Burchett (R-Tenn.).

*If it passes*, then this would be the third discharge petition in the (so far) last ~~30~~ (yikes!) 16 days. Mike Johnson’s control of the House is slipping.

No wonder Mike Johnson has recently been so adamant about curtailing discharge petitions and raising their threshold to succeed. He is losing his grip on his tiny GOP House majority and wants to get rid of one of the only processes that lawmakers can use to bypass him. If he had his way, the Epstein files vote would have never happened and this bill to ban Congressional stock trading would never see the light of day.

    5. Why do all politicians think they are above the law what the hell is going on in this country. Just because our president is a criminal and literally getting away with murder they think all of them can be crooks

The stock trading thing is a total waste of time. It’s a nice idea but they’re always going to find a way around it. I wouldn’t want anyone using too much political capital on a ban because it’ll be meaningless.

All active trading should stop once you enter elected office. You can invest in broad funds and such, but that’s it.

Love how this trash progressive website just magically leaves out all the Democrats that voted for this and makes it seem like only republicans and AoC voted for this.

This why no one can take progressive seriously that pulled stupid shit like this to make Dems look bad.

As it should be. Day trading while having inside info is literally against the law and this people make bankroll off it.

Oh thank God, a Democrat has finally figured out how to use the rules in their favor. First time for everything

    11. Did I do some mushrooms or something because this headline does not seem realistic.

    12. This is something the Democrats should have been out in front of, but apparently Jeffries would rather spend his time praising the president’s pardon of corrupt officials.

    13. AdditionalActuator81 on

That is when you know the market crash is going to happen. They will want to set the ban so they do look terrible when they have to dump all their stocks during the crash.

    14. Rascal_Rogue on

Mike’s really gonna want to change the rules cuz he doesn’t like how they’re doing it

    15. What’s the demo called that have voted historically for AOC and for Trump? Basically the cannon-fodder for the rich. Does it have a clever name

    16. alius_stultus on

If that actually passed, do you know how many congressmen would retire suddenly?

      😀

      >“Hell’s frozen over,” Burchett told The Independent about the oddball coalition.

Hell must freeze over alot, because AOC has a documented history of cosigning bills with MAGA Republicans that are designed to limit government corruption. I mean hell, she cosponsored a term limit bill with Matt Gaetz of all people.

    18. Lets do drug reimportation next. So many things just never make it to the floor because of leadership. Lets make it easier to make politicians go on the record for things that voters want.

    19. All it takes is a handful of people with the willpower to slave away their life in government to make big changes. Will you answer the call?

5 CFR Part 2635 Subpart G explicitly states that federal employees may not use their government position for their own private gain, endorsement of products or services, or the benefit of friends, relatives, or affiliated entities. The principle is reinforced by the Senate Select Committee on Ethics and House Ethics Rules, which prohibit members from using their office for private gain.

Creating new legislation is a get out of jail free card for those who have been doing it.

    22. I agree with the ban, but I think the amount of money certain lawmakers are making off stocks, is not the most egregious source of their wealth people think this ban will prevent.

Republicans are jumping ship now that Trump’s downfall is imminent.
