Sehen! Ich habe die Arbeit an meiner Übersetzung von Beregonds Karte von Mittelerde abgeschlossen. Ich habe mich stark von der spätmittelalterlichen bis frühneuzeitlichen europäischen Kartographie inspirieren lassen – insbesondere von den Karten von Jan van Linschoten (Beispiel beigefügt), Olaus Magnus (Beispiel beigefügt) und dem katalanischen Atlas von 1375.

I recently finished translating this map and wanted to share it with you all. Happy to answer any questions about the map and its translation (or about anything else – if I don’t know the answer, I’ll just make something up!)
Some personal favorites:
„These people are savages; they live on raw fish – they drink sea water and go around naked.“
„This sovereign is called Marwan. He is the noblest and richest of all Harad. He commands an army of 864 Mûmakil, 62,208 riders, and countless men.“
„All this land is inhabited by trolls three fathoms high, like giants. They are grey-skinned and dim-witted. They eat men.“
