Israeli and Lebanese officials held their first direct civilian-to-civilian talks in decades in Naqoura, a historic moment after years without direct dialogue.
The meeting, attended by a US envoy, is part of a new mechanism tied to the ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Both sides sent civilian representatives after US encouragement, and Israel described the meeting as an initial attempt to build a basis for future relations and economic cooperation, something not seen in many years.
Does it guarantee anything for the future? I wouldn’t hold my breath at all. But where there was once no chance of progress at all, there is now at least a small spark of hope for something better.
