  1. > According to the ministry, of the approximately 2.3 million foreign workers in Japan in 2024, a total of 6,244 were either injured seriously enough to require four or more days off work or they died. Deaths also reached a record of 39.

    The 2 biggest industries for this were manufacturing industry at 2,979, followed by construction at 1,165. With 1,441 cases of workers getting caught between or in machinery, followed by falls at 797.

    The rates are higher than locals.

    >The rate of work-related accidents per 1,000 workers, including Japanese nationals, stood at 2.35, but rose to 2.71 when narrowed down only to foreign workers. The rate was notably high among technical interns at 3.98 and specified skilled workers at 3.91.

    Broken down by nationality.

    >Vietnamese accounted for the highest number of incidents as 1,594, followed by Filipinos at 878, Indonesians at 757, and Brazilians at 673.

    Poor language skills may be the cause.

    > „I think the reality is that they are being accepted with limited Japanese language proficiency,“ he said.

    >Many may not even be able to apply for workers‘ compensation without assistance because of the apparent difficulty in understanding labor laws
