Miller seems to be a bizarre pick to throw back into cabinet if their goal is to distance themselves further from Trudeau era ministers (shipping Joly to France, etc.). Especially given that his time as Immigration Minister largely makes him damaged goods/a lightning rod.

Miller is one of the few politicians who will genuinely speak his mind and who isn’t afraid to get away from the talking points, which is refreshing.
It doesn’t push Carney’s Cabinet away from the Trudeau-era, but I do believe that Miller is an asset nonetheless.

Re-appointing Miller to cabinet feels like one of those “stepped on a rake” self-inflicted problems. Miller was abysmal on the immigration file and even tried floating around the idea of normalizing many illegal immigrants in Canada with permanent status.
Respectfully he’s one of the last people I trust to represent Canadian culture and identity.

I think Miller is a nice guy but a weird pick for Carney. He is a high school friend of Justin Trudeau and associated with the immigration spike in 2023/2024 that stressed people out so much. If I were a backbencher I’d be a bit mad that he gets a second shot before others get their first one.

The Liberals have such a deep bench, including accomplished former provincial ministers. Why are they bringing schmucks like Marc Miller back into cabinet?

One of the things I respected Carney for was immediatly yeeting Miller to the side lines for the disaster he created in Cabinet. Bringing him back makes me wonder just how little confidence he has in the rest of his MPs.

I actually wish Miller got the immigrantion file back. He actually seemed like he was trying to fix it or at the minimum had a clue. The currently immigration minister, when I hear her talk makes me think there’s nothing going on between her ears. Absolutely no clue about anything like a space cadet. Always just talks about her time as a provincial immigration minister blah blah like it was relevant to the question being asked.

Should’ve put him in Justice, Miller’s main talent seems to be cleaning up Sean Fraser’s messes, and that’s the Liberals top weak point. He’s never been a great communicator, but he’s been willing to make tough decisions that he does not agree with.

Lol people will blame Miller for Sean Frasers mistakes. Miller was one of the best immigration ministers of Trudeau era. Take a look at all the changes he introduced. I genuinely feel he should be put into immigration again. Coming from someone who will never vote for Libs.

Marc Miller seems like the kind of Minister Carney should be looking to distance himself from.
But he also went out of his way to convince Sean Fraser not to retire from Federal politics, and handed him Attorney General so I guess the writing was on the wall.
Fraiser and Miller were the tag team of ministerial incompetence that for the most part got us the current crisis with immigration and housing.
