Congratulations Gen Z, you just discovered meditation. Something humans have been doing for hundreds of years.

So I can use „rawdogging“ at work now?
„Bob, we need that TPS report, right away.“
„No worries, boss, Ima rawdog that mother-fucker, right now.“

    3. bluehawk232 on

Bet the stock photo model is enjoying her face being used for an article on raw dogging

    4. Will the next Gen be Generation A again? Maybe after years of using Ai they will discover thinking again. Funky times ahead.

    5. What’s next in the brainrot era? Philosophy being called „thinkmaxxing“?

Gen Z adopting “rawdogging” not realizing the previous definition

Mindfulness can help with attention span, for sure.

It’s all kind of missing the point, though. Everyone has a good attention span for things they find important to their values, goals, and interests.

Attention span isn’t like a coat of varnish you apply to your brain and have to refresh through certain practices and that you wear down with others.

The reason folks are having issues with attention span is a symptom of not having long term goals, community to reinforce and support values, and healthy interests and hobbies. I guarantee that every genzer who plays in a community sport league or goes to music jam sessions, or did the full training for a job/trade/academic discipline and works that career has perfectly adequate attention span.

„Rawdogging boredom“ is a perfectly good practice to do for everyone and anyone, especially if you do some meditation, journaling etc with it. It’s not going to do shit for your attention span unless the person has things worth paying attention to, but it might help reset priorities towards those things if they have them.

    8. But for real though, next time you’re queuing, waiting to get your hair cut, whatever.

Don’t get your phone out, look around, read what’s around you. Acknowledge that you are in that space.

      > We asked an expert.
      > So could it help?
      > I suppose.

      call me an expert too

    10. The new raw-dogging fad will be IRL getting drunk at bars, hooking up with other drunks and having sex without protection

Just read books people, passes the time and it’s good for your brain

    13. They mean…cold turkey. They mean, finding something else to do. They mean, gleaming the cube, staring into the abys, or what is commonly globally referred to as…unplugging.

But sure, jump into boredom and come out the other side a changed person. Or, whatever it is they call themselves.

    14. TheAdminsAreTrash on

People used to call it „meditation“ before the great stupidity epidemic…

    15. robthethrice on

I have a suspicion that people who think ‘rawdogging X’ sounds cool or whatever used to giggle anytime they heard ‘69’. Maybe still do

That aside, meditation helps some people.

If they’re doing it for the insta or reddit post, probably not much benefit.

If they’re taking some time to unplug and think, might be good.

But i’m more of a cynic than expert, so take it with a grain of salt.

My school years were from 1970 into the 1980’s. Rawdogging boredom did not help my poor attention span back then.

Theres a malapropism in the second sentence. These articles are just getting worse

    18. Gen Z loves to think up new words for old as time concepts and pretend to have invented it don’t they ?

    19. besuretodrinkyour on

Gen Z is the cringiest generation, not because they do cringier things, but because they are so *serious* about their cringy things.

    20. Slippery-ape on

You mean they are trying to do the thing that every human on earth had to do before the cell phone?

    21. Antique_Worth607 on

does detaching yourself from electronics fix you. yes. yes it does. thank you for the obvious post

    22. Due_Satisfaction2167 on

If you want to improve your attention span, write a book.

      By hand.

    23. miss305worldwide on

Read books ma dudes. Set aside an hour or two each day to just lay in bed and read a book with nothing else going on. Helped fix my attention span during COVID.

    24. PotterOneHalf on

Yeah I stopped going on TikTok and replaced that time on my phone with time spent on my Kindle, and my attention span is FAR better.

It’s hard, but worth it if you stick to it.

Bar for accomplishment is so low now that people want to be applauded for doing nothing

Imagine thinking your nervous system never needs rest. Boredom is a good thing

    27. 1. This is a really really obvious solution
      2. Why the fuck are we calling it rawdogging lol

    28. Try the new, sit on a flight with zero technology challenge.

Seriously though, the human brain is not built for constant stimulation. It explains the rapid rise in anxiety disorders.

How are ya, fellow kids? turns out ,me and my hubs have been doing this a while now.

our variant is basically getting a weekend off somewhere so far in the middle of nowhere there really IS NOTHING ELSE than you two. its not magic or anything and will not solve your issues, but what we´ve found is that there is no distractions. you cant run away into something.

thats a way to force you two face whats in your head. you cant run away.

tbh, did wonders to our marriage. it helps when you speak with clarity and intent.

    30. > „…depend on whether one engages in the activity regularly and mindfully“

Meditation. This is just a very odd way of saying meditation.
