      Having the wisdom of hindsight I very much wish this was the case when I was growing up.

      I’m 28 now; in my mid to late teens I went down a rabbit hole of utter bullshit and got entrenched in some very damaging opinions, all of which I was exposed to via Facebook and Twitter. I also spent way too much time on them when I could have been much more productive.

      No cell phones or Internet when I grew up in the 60s and 70s and spent the majority of my free time being outside during the summer and reading books during the winter. God knows how I would’ve ended up had the Internet existed back then. I probably would have used Wolfram Alpha and one of the online AI’s for most of my homework and spent my free time playing Xbox or PC games and hanging out on Reddit.

      Million of teens each having 9+ hours a day to figure it out versus a couple of experts who gave it XX hours to block the teens.

      Who will win? Geez I dunno…

      Ok I’m calling it – verified accounts black market. People aged 17-20 will start selling TikTok accounts.

      Then you just displace them to sites or apps that don’t require IDs. The thing about behavior is, it doesn’t go away. It just gets displaced

      Nothing bad.
      Social media should be removed in its whole form and we need to go back to basic forums.
      The idea of social media is amazing as long as its fully open source and not controlled by billionaires.
      Other than that, look at what they became.

      I was lucky that Facebook debuted my sophomore year in college. Just a few years later, I was at the Minnesota Fringe Festival watching a play written by teens about their experiences on Facebook. This was maybe 3-4 years after it opened for teens and maybe regular adults. Those teens were already starting to deal with the major issues we are seeing today.

      Social media likely should be banned for teens. We see how negatively it effects adults, so why would we expose our children to it while their brains are forming. I think this is wise until we at least find a solution that introduces them to social media in a way that’s helpful.

      A thing politicians failed to take into account is that teens will find a way to bypass the ban, either using a VPN(most likely the free version of ProtonVPN, or Mullvad since you can mail them money for the subscription) or use their parents ID

      It takes a few days to realize that Facebook is just a homepage. You don’t need it.

      Who cares, how about how it will impact all the adults who have to hand over data to be leaked or used to link comments and posts to people to screw people over in the future by the government.

      I suspect the teens will hate it and the statistics will show that it was a very positive change. Social media is a cancer.

      Everyone’s all „they’ll just get a VPN“ but I honestly think roughly 60% are incapable of figuring out how to do that.

      People are fucking dumb.

      I think schools should still have classes on navigating social media and the internet. We need that level of literacy more than ever especially with the emergence of AI

      I think it’s a good idea. I can feel myself losing focus nowadays because of short form videos giving me so much dopamine

      Hopefully all good things and other countries will follow suit. Forget teens and kids, there are many adults that would benefit from being kicked off social media.

      Why aren’t any politicians pushing for regulations on social media to improve the experience? Instead, it’s always restrictions and bans when we know full well that the problem is the corporations that own these sites.
