Inflation is about 200% over the same period. So skim that off the top.

In the part of WV where I grew up, the difference is far greater. More like 300%

Eveyone wants to live in Washington, as a resident I totally understand why and hopefully we can build enough homes for all of us 16 million people in the region of Cascadia.

Build The Wall! It’s those darn climate and political refugees! People who think it’s important to be around trees and water!

I don’t see anything in the map other than that in 40 years it’s the state that has attracted a lot more wealth than others. I could put a bunch of countries and a similar map will show that correlates to how well they progressed in that period. Progress is good. It brings wealth. We need more homes and better laws to curb hedge funds from market manipulation, but we did better than California when it grew and worse than new york. But we definitely did better than Arizona, Florida, and Texas, where income to housing costs grew disproportionately towards wealthy.

And this is why WA banned single family exclusive zoning. Gotta get more housing somehow

I would like to see just in the last 10 years. There was a big jump after Covid.

Funny thing about Maine, is that about 375% of that 40 year increase occurred in the last 4 years.

If property tax is based on a percentage of the appraised value of the home that means your taxes go up by that much too. Wonder why the government does everything they can do to keep prices high.

So that house you leave your grandkids will cost them the same amount you paid for the home about every 5 years due to taxes. But don’t worry modern homes won’t last that long anyways.

Washington, which has the highest increase, is a sanctuary state. Guess where illegals need to live? In housing. Anyone who has common sense or has taken an Econ 101 class knows about supply and demand.

As demand increases, supply lessens, and prices go up.

There are an estimated 350,000 illegal aliens in WA. Even if we assume that they’re all couples living together, that’s 175,000 housing units in use by people that aren’t even supposed to be here.

Want to lower your rent or property values? Decrease demand. Increase supply.

Deporting those people would be like adding 175K houses/apartments, virtually instantly.

…or maybe it could be the thousands in fees you have to pay when buying a house to illegally fund a program that gives *only minorities* money to buy houses – and then the organizations managing the funds given to them by the state, which are paid for by the taxpayer are then caught giving the money to themselves and family members to buy houses ….
