> Cameron said now that generative AI is invading the industry, the idea that the technology could substitute for a performer is “horrifying.”
> “Now, go to the other end of the spectrum, and you’ve got generative AI, where they can make up a character,” Cameron added. “They can make up an actor. They can make up a performance from scratch with a text prompt. It’s like, no. That’s horrifying to me. That’s the opposite. That’s exactly what we’re not doing.”
Shit just Suno v5’s voice performance capabilities can be pretty damn good.
“They can make up an actor. They can make up a performance from scratch with a text prompt. It’s like, no. That’s horrifying to me. That’s the opposite. That’s exactly what we’re not doing.”
A lot of movies publicly losing a lot of money these days. They’re going to try to cut costs on film production somehow.
“NOW—let’s set the AI digital noise reduction filter to MAX. I want everybody in this new ALIENS transfer to look like WAX”
This is from the man who made up a story about what happened on titanic based on some known prompts and won a bunch of awards for it.
I’m not a fan of GenAI art but honestly, this guy is a little self-serving. After all, nothing in a movie is real – it’s all made up and stitched together to present itself as real.
Said the guy making 💯cgi movies 🙄-

Crazy that Cameron can use real actors and turn them into wooden characters like Jake Sully
Can’t fight AI, embrace it, love it, respect it.
People won’t care, those that do are the one who have to too much time on their hands, e.g., the chronically online bozos.
It does NOT create a performance „from scratch“. That’s precisely not how it works. And it’s precisely why it sucks ass.
Stability AI board member James Cameron.
Not from scratch. It’s stolen material, including reactions from actors and non actors alike, to recreate that reaction like a collage. It’s theft of art and cannot truly replicate the human experience.
It’s probably really scary because it’s believable, it looks good, and AI doesn’t complain.
It’s pretty interesting seeing the generation who believed robots would take over (especially Cameron who made the best sci fi action movie about it) get completely blindsided by AI and what it can do.
Cameron is probably extra pissed because he sunk over 20 years into Avatar already comming up with ground breaking CGI and in 10-15 years AI will be able to surpass that with a team of like 10 people.
The future is now old man

He’s on the board of an AI company…
Ya but its real shit
Industry vet here. Text prompts to act out a scene is only the beginning. They are already experimenting with text prompts to create the overall look of the scene. Lighting, depth of field, shadows, and other variables are now making that scene indistinguishable to real film sets. Whole entire industry of unionized labor will be wiped off the map. From electricians, gaffers, grips, carpenters, cinematographers, follow focus, 2nd assists, best boys and the hundreds of other jobs are at jeopardy. No amount of Union power can stop the enviable desire to stem the use of Ai. Thank you Big Five
James Cameron the founder of the most redundant soulless movies recently saying a good thing about AI doesn’t surprise me
Funny how it’s the ultra rich who are being exposed for producing such mediocrity that AI can replicate it easily who are the most vocal opponents.
Whatever. Get over yourself.
James Cameron member of stability AI’s board, thinks Ai can create anything from scratch while being invested in a company that 100% was created from stolen labor is some special kind of mental gymnastics
Says the man who made entire movies of CGI aliens acting. Oh, they were mocap? What do you think did all of the overlay onto that captured footage?
I don’t like AI in movies either but let’s not pretend he isn’t using a technology that is still heavily reliant on the same techniques that lead to early AI based media generation.
Remember the audience reaction to Tobey coming back in Spider Man NWH? Compare that with the audience reaction to CGI Christopher Reeve coming back in The Flash.
AI actors will not draw audiences.
