I was checking out the Montreal REM yesterday and came upon this protest marching on Rene Levesque Boulevard. It was large, not massive, but much larger than I expected. I didn’t expect to notice it as much as I did. It eventually led to McGill College, which was completely full, spilling over into Saint Catherine street. It was very large, and people brought their families to this event. It was surreal with banners and megaphones packing the streets and throngs of Christmas shoppers indoors in the underground city. It felt like two different worlds, completely unaware of each other.
In anycase, citizens are waking up to the fact that government that use the notwithstanding clause to cancel fundamental human rights and freedoms is ovverkill for dealing with unions, doctors, and religious minorities, espcially with Trump pursuing a fascist agenda in the U.S.
I’m really not sure why Legault & the CAQ opted to pick so many fights this year when they’re in polling freefall. If anything, they need PR wins, not making more groups mad at them.
