I understand exactly what you just said!
God, I hope this project will go somewhere. Decades in the making, delays after delays, billions of Euros. In the US there’s pip-squeak startups already *selling* future fusion energy from reactors they haven’t figured out yet. Either they’re totally mad, or this is.
Its beautiful.
We will definitely be able to get commercial fusion in 30 years
Why russia is allowed to take part in it?

When i see these mega projects, these generational leaps, it always makes me cry a little.
We as humans built this. There are people out there designing our own little stars. I can’t imagine any mortal doing these things but we are!
Seeing research turning into reality makes me excited for the future. Lets hope the next 100 Years will be even better!

This is great, and (IMO) it’s costing peanuts, it should be accelerated with more resources.
A research that could contribute to get us a new world of cheaper and abundant, clean energy (without even the nuclear wastes), transforming almost the human race ability to build new things, electrify the economy, help stop contributing to the climate change…
And this research has only a $22bn cost for the last 20 years or so? (even if it was budegeted for $5bn somehow). Distributed between the EU (the bigger expender), US, Russia, China…?
This is peanuts and almost infurates me.
Just for context, in the UK, the nuclear plant Hinkley Point C project is going to cost up to $57bn. Just the UK, for just 1 nuclear plant, is going to pay more than double the ITER has got for the last 20 years from all the participants.
No wonder this project is always being like „just 20 more years“
