The news is quite old as a couple of years ago some politician claimed that Kagoshima, Miyazaki, and Oita prefectures are territory of China. The very same person also hinted at territorial claims of the Hawaiian Islands. Idk what more BS has been dumped from pandaland but it will get crazy.

This piece really underscores how Beijing is trying to turn Okinawa into a bargaining chip over Taiwan, not because there is any real “sovereignty issue,” but because pressuring Takaichi and sowing doubt about Japan’s territorial integrity serves its strategic narrative. The escalation from fringe tabloid editorials to coordinated messaging by state outlets and diplomatic channels shows how normalized this kind of overt disinformation campaign has become in China’s toolkit. Whatever one thinks of Takaichi’s broader politics, Japan does not gain anything by staying vague here – clearly rejecting these narratives while calmly reiterating Okinawa’s status as Japanese territory and reinforcing ties with Okinawans themselves seems essential.

Too bad Japan doesn’t have its own state propaganda arm or a lot of things could be told about many Chinese provinces

It’s so obvious. BJ is setting the narrative to turn Okinawa into the new buffer state between Japan and China once Taiwan is gone and no longer functioning as that buffer state.
