    1. Screw EVERY port city on the Mediterranean but by all means, dig a gigantic canal to give Venice access to the now cut off inland sea.

Worked construction one summer we I helped move over 10 million cubic yards of soil for 6 weeks driving a 6 ton dump truck. This seems like a multi century project.

How to do one better than the custodians of the Aral Sea. That has not generally been seen as a good move BTW.

Atlantropa should be discussed with the caveat that there was never any real chance of a government picking up the project.

Nonetheless, it is a fascinating extreme case of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries’ enamorement with landscape and especially water control as a sign of advanced civilization.

    7. Venice having a canal would turn it into the ultimate tourist trap mega upgrade right there bro

Anyone has insights what that would do to the climate and vegetation in Europe? I would assume less water would lead to more dry areas and potentially new deserts.

I’m no seaologist or whatever it’s called, but something tells me they would need to do a LOT more than just extend the suez to keep it operational
