That is not at all how you cancel subscriptions in Germany. There is a good chance they simply booked back the money and now DB wants their money. There is even a good chance the subscription is still running.

Contact DB, to see if the D-Ticket was properly cancelled. If not, cancel it and write off the money you (rightfully) own DB as a lesson for the future to not let others set up contracts for you that you not understand.

…thats not how that works, you cant just stop paying to cancel a subscription

I would cancel it and pay as soon as possible, if you dont do that the money owed can quickly get more and more up into the thousands

    4. You should be able to just pay the debt as suggested in the email. And ensure that any subscriptions are canceled to avoid it in the future.

It won’t go to court and you won’t be in any trouble if you do that.

Around 50 Euros, so it is most likely a „49 Euro Ticket“. What many people, specially foreigners, are not aware: This ticket is a dirty subscrition trap! You have to cancel it before the 10th of a month, otherwise you must pay it for the subsequent month! I guess that what happened to you.

Cancellation deadline at the 10th of a month for the next month is not due to technical reasons, in 21st century this works in realtime: Cancel today on their homepage, ticket void today. It is only to extract one more monthly fee out of people.

Deutsche Bahn sells all those cases to commercial debt collection companys, and they add high extra costs which change 49 Euro to 150 or so Euro.

Is this a bevaviour fitting to a reputable company? No. Does it put millions of Euros into the pocket of debt companys and Deutsche Bahn? Yes.
