Never have I seen a plan that screams “unintended consequences” louder.

      „Not in favour“?

But according to my town’s Facebook page, it’s already started.

Every time there are con trails in the sky: „You watch, there’ll be clouds soon.“ Well, duh, yeah, Marjorie, it’s November.

„They’re spending 50million pounds to dim the sun, and they want to put in solar farms.“

    3. Capitalists hate the Sun’s one trick, providing unlimited uncontrollable quantities of free energy.

As hellish as it can be driving in the middle of winter in the north of Scotland, this seems a bit drastic.

    5. I thought it was going to be a joke article for a second, but, it’s actually serious!

Personally i think we should explode the sun, just get rid of it altogether. Just think of the benefits. No more skin cancer for a start. I could go on.

Surely we’d be better off putting this effort into researching fusion?

In about half a billion years, this tech will be useful. But that’s a few minutes away still.

They *are* buying into carbon capture, so I guess they created the need to specify which big tech non-solutions they are and aren’t in favour of.

    10. Literally the plot of the film Snowpiercer, where an effort put particles in the air which would reflect sunlight causes a permanent ice age.

That result really isn’t that farfetched either. Cooling a planet means more ice formation at the poles. More ice at the poles would in turn reflect more sunlight back into space. This would cause additional cooling, and more ice, which means more cooling and further ice, further reflection, further cooling and so on.

We could potentially get into a place where we can’t emit enough carbon dioxide and methane each year to artificially warm the planet to stave off the ice. Although I’m sure fossil fuel companies would have a good few years while we tried it, and it became downright unpatriotic not to burn fossil fuels as much as possible.

Like a plot of scary disaster films, trying to stop the warming, end up in freezing the planet.

What about the crazy bright LED headlights cars have that are designed to blind us when driving at night? Perhaps you could dim those instead and I don’t think anyone would call that controversial.

If someone said this was under discussion 5 years ago they would have been called a conspiracy nut

    14. Blocking out the sun? Advent of AI? Are we in the beginning of the Matrix?

Do I get a cool ship to fly in the underground tunnels next?

EV use takes off, 3p per mile tax.
Solar installations ramp up, let’s dim the sun.

Geoengineering is the only serious solution we have to climate change. You can’t claim to be taking climate change seriously if you won’t even entertain research into real, viable solutions.
