I think bringing him into Cabinet after Trudeau left was only an attempt to not immediately alienate the radical element in the party. But Carney is dragging the Liberals back to their natural position towards the centre and the migration of radicals back to the NDP and Greens was bound to happen.
I think it’s unrealistic to be so against something you’re not even willing to negotiate or accept when you’ve lost.
Realities change. Alberta wants to export more O&G, and the west is getting uneasy about it. You either strike a balance with them and other players that still meet environmental goals, or you wait until a conservative government rams it through without any negotiation.
There’s still a demand for gas around the world, and every litre we don’t supply, Russia and Saudi Arabia will.

It’s actually amazing just how much relations between Ottawa and Alberta deteriorated under Trudeau and was just like when his dad was PM.
There has been some real good progress in the form of dialogue from Carney, if he can actually get a pipeline going he will have my vote and many others in Alberta.
I think it is wrong to describe Guilbeault as the green conscience. The 70s and 80s environmental movement has caused significant damage to the environment by advocating against nuclear energy. Guilbeault wanted to shut down Pickering a few years ago.

Everyone who has been paying attention for the last 10 years knows the value of a Liberals word, diddly squat.
It is my bet that Guilbeault will be back in a cabinet position in a few weeks as if nothing happened as well.
This is silly. A large part of the „moral obligations“ of the Liberal government towards climate has been to punish virtually every industry and person in the country. In the background, researchers were crying for more money to develop strategies and technology to fight climate change and got nearly nothing.
Tech companies geared to managing climate regulations were laying off researchers and scientists because the Federal government refused to allocate funds.
The Trudeau government ruined its own climate policy long before Carney stepped in, by making it divisive and starved for funds. If you’re going to let oil and gas die, you have to have funding for whatever comes next, or that braintrust is going to leave.
