      This would be great for Intel. A return to form if you will. Did the government take a part of the company as was rumored ?

      Probably to use them to source chips for their headsets or something less demanding

      I think its expected their fabs are finally going to be competitive again next year I think.

      so yeah if they can fab on the same level as tsmc again – I dont see why not

      For years, critics argued that Intel’s minimal generational improvements, restrictive product segmentation, short-lived platform support, and the anti-competitive rebate schemes used to discourage OEMs from adopting AMD processors actions that regulators later fined the company for creating an environment that stagnated desktop CPU progress and limited consumer choice until AMD’s Ryzen resurgence forced genuine competition back into the market.

      maybe making intel chips for the new 12 in model or perhaps the base air 13 and 15, while reserving the M series chips for the pro and up, assuming intel chips are cheaper to manufacture than the M or A series chips for the entry/base models

      It’s funny, Trump is bringing „socialism“ to America more than any democrat has. The good part is the Trumpers can’t tell it’s „socialism“.

      I don’t think so – you don’t announce the depreciation of “these Intel instructions can run on ARM CPUs” support _or even the ability of our OS to run on Intel machines_ one year, then two years later do a take-back-zies and have the OS support it again the next.

      Pure wishful thinking on Intel’s part

      Apple only do this to force consumers to buy new MacBooks and Macs. They’ve changed processor types several times now, and each time it renders older devices obsolete. They’re experts at creating a problem and selling the solution.

      Maybe this is a dumb question… but if this happens it’d still be on apple silicon right? Apple’s home-rolled ARM SoC, just off of intel’s new fab?

      Nope. From Apple’s perspective, returning to Intel chip would be a downgrade of everything.
