a bunch of millionaires from Norway have fled to Switzerland to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.
I wouldn’t mind if Switzerland taxed the shit out of them, they deserve to fall between 2 chairs and have their asses bruised.
Switzerland is a pirate cove. A country that lives off corruption and misery and whose sole existence is based on giving the worst people on earth a way to make them as rich as possible. I wish that we could embargo them (which won’t happen because most politicians have personal interests that it stays as it is)
There isn’t a single sentence in the article that mentions what the tax should be for: The money would just be used for climate change actions. Not for other stuff. It’s not like that the money would go into the regular budget of the state.
So, i’ll vote no on this one.
Guess some people here won’t like it, but no, Switzerland can’t stop climate change. Even when the entire country would completely disappear over night, it would not have any impact on climate change. From the sources i checked, the emissions are around 0.1% of the total amount. With a lot of effort and money, maybe we could lower it, like to say 0.09% or 0.08% or whatever.
But, that’s not worth it. I see the way to deal with climate change in new technologies and in preparations to deal with the consequences, not in things like the proposed CO2-taxes we already refused a few years ago.

Switzerland should tax the rich! No more places for them to go and evade rightful taxes, that’s what we need to achieve.
If there were no havens there’d be nowhere to hide.

Lowering taxes to attract wealthy people is a race to the bottom and eventually every country is going to figure that out. And at that point, they’ll tax, and then they’ll tax their properties higher if they leave, and then they’ll tax their companies higher if they leave, and then we won’t have a problem with rich arseholes who think they’re better than everyone else.
I guess the writing’s on the wall: time to pay your fair share. Love to see it gain more momentum worldwide, even though it’s a decade or two later than it should’ve been.
Switzerland has these performative „more fairness“ referendums (referenda?) regularly. They never pass, don’t hold your breath.

When not even 2 years ago all the balllickers for the billionaire class where saying thast any country doing this were shooting themselves in the foot, they weren’t realising that these social movements tend to domino like that.
Billionaires are living in these countries precisely because the high taxes afford them a level of tranquility and quality of life that they simply couldn’t get in other countries, EVEN IF (as the ultra rich do in places like Mexico city) they were willing and able to build ultrafortified compounds. they’d have to live secluded, sad lives.
And they DEFINITELY don’t want that. But they also don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes; as in, not even in the percentages that the middle class does; which is why none of them get salaries from their companies, and do all sorts of fiscal engineering to pay less than the average people.
So fuck them. The walls are closing in on them. Any country they move in droves into in order to flee from such measures in their home countries, will develop the sort of unrest that will make this an inevitability.
It’s in the air right now. And there will always be commoners who will fall fortheir media companies‘ disinformation campaigns, but that proportion of people is getting smaller and smaller (at least outside of the US).
Could go to Germany. It seems to do politics for the riches.
I wish we had it in EU: debate and vote.
This proposal is idiotic and that’s why it has very little support. It’s better to raise the wealth tax instead of tying a big payout to the moment of death.
Of course Swiss people having a sane political system unlike most of the EU will get a chance to vote on that as well.
