The best propaganda is one that’s true, but presented in certain ways. It’s easy to find alarming statistics on (gang) violence and explosions in Sweden, and it does make headlines. Does it affect the average swede? Not really.
Is it a problem? Of course.
Most violent countries in the world? From an American? At least our government isn’t aiming for our own cities. It’s incomprehensible how someone can even come to that conclusion.
Yes, a lot of violence in Sweden recently with gangs etc and our politicians aren’t solving it. But Sweden is a flowery walk in the park compared to the US, to China and about 50 other countries at peace.
How I see it they are saying „Well don’t flee to other countries, you are safe in the safest most free country in the world.“ and that’s one of their gaslighting strategies to keep the population in the US compliant and obedient.
Why? Because they want their people to think about problems that aren’t in their own country.
We have no aliens in Sweden. And If we had aliens, we would make them gay.

Sweden still keeps getting placed in top 10 in metrics like „happiness“, „quality of life“, educations/innovations/opportunities and so on.
A few years ago everyone used the „rape angle“, rather than the gang one. Sweden was the capital of rape, everyone got raped. Because we have strict laws, modern definitions of abuse and a high reporting rate (because we are somewhat decent (relatively) at not shaming women who do report), the numbers were, well, *higher*, compared to countries where women have way fewer opportunities to speak up.
But sure, we have had an increase in gang related violence over the recent years and we might been lacking in the response to that. But the actual impact on everyday life? Minimal. Do some people keep talking about this over all other political issues? All the time.
Also, for an other perspective. I see a very similar thing in terms of absurd propaganda regarding London. Right-wing (Reform) profiles basically saying that everyone gets stabbed to death in London, everyday, totally disregarding that London is a very visited Tourist destination still, people go there, live there, work there everyday and it is mostly fine. Not without its flaws, obviously, but just the other day some influencer walked down one of the biggest shopping streets in London acting as if he ran across no man’s land during the height of WW1. Utterly braindead.

This is a right wing trope pushed by both Swedish right-wingers and international. It exist to slander a functioning welfare state as a failure to fit the right-wing narrative that left wing policies leads to Armageddon.
However, sweden has become “less safe” and our welfare system is eroding but as a result on right wing policies to disassemble the system. Recent decades of right wing economic and social policies has widened the gap between rich and poor and ignored the need to integrate immigrants to the society. Leading to more civil unrest and higher crime rates. Now the same people responsible for this, among with their far-right friends, are pushing the image that the welfare system has failed. It all fits their agenda. As well as it fits the agenda for foreign right-wing politicians that can take this trope and say “hey this is what Sweden has become and we shall not be fooled to walk this path!”
Just have to add. Fucking fuck Trump. Just read the news that he is willing to give up on Crimea and other parts of occupied Ukraine. That is so vile I want to puke. Fuck him.

For a metric of general safety, I like to use Wikipedia’s „[List of countries by intentional homicide rate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate)“.
While it is true that Sweden has slipped in the ratings over the years, from being one of the safest countries in the world, to being just barely safer then the European average, it can’t really be argued that Sweden is unsafe.
As is, we’re at #143 of countries with the most murders, which is just barely safer than France (#138) or the UK (#142). So it’s still nowhere near as unsafe as third world countries like the US (#66).
The right wing couldn’t exist if they didn’t lie, as their stances and thoughts are easily disproven through fair debate and logic. They exist to sow hate, confusion and fear, all for their own benefit.

It’s true that we need resources to work on immigration policies with an intent of „best for all“ with whatever human rights policies we signed up for and believe in. The same goes for organized crime or other things that fascists use as an asset to run their agenda.
I’ve been living among immigrants for most of my life. Being an immigrant or belonging to some ethnicity not part of being Swedish is not the problem. It’s an incredibly stupid and reductionist way of perceiving other people. We are all idiots on our own merits. Don’t buy into the propaganda and definitely don’t take anything Trump says seriously. I’m Scandinavian Canadian and I feel your pain. the US has invented so many stories about Canada lately that it’ll make your head spin. one of the big ones was that we were the fentanyl capital and that we were responsible for dumping tons of fentanyl into the United States. complete bologna but they don’t care about how we appear they only carry about pushing other people down so they can prop themselves up. the art of the bully in full force.

Swedish far right propagandists also pretend that Sweden is a violent hellhole (check basically any post on r/Sverige). They need Sweden to be violent, for propaganda purposes.
They are scared of the swedish model so they try to paint a horrible picture of sweden to dissuade their public to champion adoptions of swedish policies.
The reason that nations like the US target Sweden, Denmark, France and other relatively successful European countries, is the same reason why a grumpy bum would target a mediocre businessman: Sure, the businessman has their own problems, but the bum has far greater problems and is basically only pointing fingers to distract from that fact.
I mean, how often haven’t we heard American media talk about „no go-zones“ in different parts of whatever European country, only to see basic, on-the-ground reporting proving such notions wrong? It’s little more than baseless insults; propaganda meant for the devoted Fox News-watcher…
To be fair: There has been an increase of violence in Sweden over the years, mostly concerning idiots throwing around explosives, but it’s not as big a problem as the media would have you believe. It’s mostly just a bunch of wannabe gangbangers looking to make noise, and explosives make a lot noise! People get hurt or even killed from time to time, but it’s not a major societal problem like some would have you believe. It’s just modern gang culture trying, and failing, to establish itself in our nation.
Hell, someone threw an explosive into my apartment complex a few months ago, and I didn’t realize it until the next day; a couple of weeks later it was basically forgotten by the community. Nobody’s afraid, nobody cares, fuckers behind it got arrested, Bob’s your uncle!
Compare that to the US, where the president is a convicted felon, who wantonly wishes death and misery upon anyone who so much as disagrees with him, while he shamelessly frees and protects traitors and fraudsters en masse, as he insults reporters and the very concept of independant journalism, and I frankly don’t find any their accusations any more credible than that of a drunkard. In fact, had these insults towards us come from anywhere other than the US, I would’ve seen them as little more than some insignificant dictator’s mad ravings against the Free World.

Eskalerande gängvåld och en situation där klaner och gäng sakta men säkert infiltrerar samhällsinstitutioner är det största säkerhetshotet vi haft i modern tid. Hur ska gängen stoppas när dom fått in tillräckligt med infiltratörer hos polis, domstolar, lokalpolitik och andra myndigheter?
Its just right-wing bullshit talk. Violence is actually down in Sweden. And its constantly going down. shootings are up though but in general, violence is lower now that for example ten years ago. And the shooting are not „immigrant-related“ they are gang-related. Various gangs fight for control over the drug trade. They don’t do it because they are immigrants, some are immigrants but its really completely unrelated. This is just regular drug-crime. Mostly the people that get shot are just drugdealers or their relatives but sometimes an innocent person gets hurt. Its still not in any way related to immigration though. And everybody really knows this, its just a talking point as sweden has a political party that is strongly racist and it has a large following of trolls on social media that like to talk shit and blame immigrants for basically anything.

Sure, why not? In early 1900s, Swedish immigrants were discriminated against in the USA, and they were described as non-whites by Anglos.
Meanwhile, Jewish, Irish and Italian immigrants were discriminated against in the USA, too.
It is so ironic that when not long ago Charlie Kirk was assassinated in a gruesome way in public in the USA, and recently two national guards in the USA was shot near the White House.
As for the Golden Age of Sweden, sheer ignorance is the major problem of Millennial Neoconservatives like Murray: Balkan and Finnish immigrants came to Sweden and contributed to the society here significantly.
P.S.: Americans have made the so-called „Black Friday“ into a „Black Week“, with all the scam schemes such as raising the price of an item before reducing it, and calling it a „discount“. It is surely not offensive to „the People of Color“, eh? Hahaha!

2. Is it really ‚dragging‘ a country when the _TWO_ examples you list are the examples of the most clear variety? It’s hardly controversial to state that grenade attacks and gang violence are relatively common occurrences.
3. Being offended by this is having cognitive dissonance over the _fact_ that people abroad’s views of Sweden differs in this instance from the general views of swedes. Or its being a child, incapable of regulating one’s emotions.

Sweden has deteriorated dramatically. Its unrecognizable to someone like me who grew up in the 90’s. People are prisoners in their own homes, city centers are dead, nightclubs and pubs are long gone. The violence isn’t a problem comparatively.

Because socialist welfare state sweden is sometimes referred to as a generally ”better” society than the US because of free healthcare, education, equality (well most things that matter).
