*Sergeant Patricia Ryan, formerly Limerick Divisional Roads Policing Unit, gave evidence that she detected Pat Ryan, a member of the All-Ireland winning senior hurling team, allegedly driving a black BMW 318 car at 135kph in a 100kph zone, at Dooradoyle, Limerick, on November 14, 2018.*
*Ryan said she explained to Ryan that a fixed charge penalty notice would be issued in respect of the alleged speeding offence.*
*Ryan said afterwards she received a text message from one of the accused, Hassett.*
*The message which was shown to the court read:* ***“Hey missus. Anne-Marie Hassett here. Sorry to be bugging you but you stopped a fella today, Pat Ryan, Doon. He’s on the Limerick panel with Eamon. Any way you could you do something for him? No panic if you can’t and sorry again for annoying you about this.”***
*Ryan’s reply, also shown in court, read:* ***“I’m sorry Anne-Marie, I’ve all my incidents on the system. Unfortunately, once they’re on the system they can’t be deleted.”***
*Ryan agreed with Carl Hanahoe, prosecuting, that ‘****Eamon’ in Hassett’s text referred to co-accused, Eamon O’Neill, who the court has heard is Hassett’s partner.***
*Hanahoe asked Ryan why she told Hassett that she had input all of her incidents on the roads detection system, when she in fact had not. Ryan replied: “It was a polite way of saying no.”*

GAA are never beating the corrupt nouveau elite allegations.
These are the instances of GAA corruption being caught and aired – imagine what goes on that we don’t see.
Insanely shit reporting by the Journal on this by the way. Completely bury the lead and spend 90% of the article talking about common sense policing, only to reveal at the end that why yes, the officer on duty did use her common sense, gave a ticket for doing 135 in a 100 zone, and then they tried to have her strike it out cause your man was friends with the superintendent.
Makes my blood boil.
Committing serious offences to save a speeding fine. Insane when you think about it really.
„Discretion“ of course is only for certain people, if you have the wrong address you’ll get none.
The pearl clutching over this. It isn’t specific hurlers and it’s not at all uncommon.
This is absolute corruption.
1. Incredibly dangerous driving by a limerick player.
2. Garda contacted to turn the other way. 100% corrupt behaviour.
3. The reply of “ sorry it’s in the system so I can’t do your corrupt request“ Also corrupt imo. It looked like if they’d only asked sooner we could have let the scallywag away.
What in God’s name is the story with this team and the local garda.
People not giving the officer enough credit IMO. Downvote me if you want, he/she stood up for the law no matter the “personal” repositions in their job. Good on them.
That’s not at all what I’m saying. The exaggerated reaction to this instance belies the fact that it’s a routine occurrence – not that I believe it’s at all acceptable. In saying that most people will know someone who’s contact the local sergeant or TD in reaction to some misdemeanor and I guarantee when it’s closer to home reactions are more tempered.
Edit: I don’t necessarily think excessive speeding is a misdemeanor
