  1. So are the sanctions actually doing something or is this just a result of their badly planned war not going the way they expected ?

  2. Income tax was first introduced in Britain to fund the Neapolitan er Napoleonic War in 1799.

Looking forward to the shill and bot comments arguing that this a win for russia or just changing the subject with a „What about…“.

Nice! 👍 The war can last another year, when is the revolution happening

  5. Sanctions are doing a fairly good job at keeping dual use items out of Russia (or rather, making China more reluctant to supply them)—and oil prices (and therefore Putin’s piggy bank) are low. A more comprehensive explanation for Russia’s failure might include the massive growth/innovation in Ukraine’s defense sector, Putin’s Stalin-esque disregard for the lives of his own soldiers, decades of cronyism, a more resolutely united Europe, etc. etc.

  6. Wait wasn’t VAT the whole basis for the tariffs on Europe? I look forward to tariffs finally being applied to Russia

  7. Value added taxes are seriously regressive, because poor people tend to spend a higher proportion of their income on taxed items. going from 20% to 22%, that is a 10% tax increase on the middle class and below in Russia. That’s a serious risk over time to support for Putin, although his repressive powers are immense.

  8. “ Russia last raised VAT in 2019, when it increased the rate to 20% from 18%”

    Keep squeezing ordinary russians

Putin meets 27% vat orban and raises his own to 22%, the curse strikes again

That’s a great move because they also have rampant inflation. It should cool it down a bit.

  12. lol and they said Putin can continue the war without effort, now he is even lack of money

  13. In normal countries they pay taxes for goods and services that are intended to benefit them and their interests. Russians pay taxes so their overlords can have a consistent, wealthy lifestyle while they strip mine Russia’s future to kill children in Ukraine.
