OpenAI won’t be profitable until a lot later than that, if at all. The amount of money they’re throwing at this is astronomical and with Gemini on the horizon they’re going to have significant competition which will dilute their market

And that’s why they’re already campaigning for a government bailout.

    3. Good thing they’re partnering with Target surely they can both recoup their losses with AI 😂

    4. OpenAI will be eventually bankrupt and be bought out by Microsoft pennies on a dollar.

God I hope it crashes and burns and all those who invest in AI are so bankrupted their grandchildren wouldn’t be able to afford to invest in anything other than new shoes..

    6. 1. GenAI more of a parlor trick than a revolution
      2. Google already ate their lunch
      3. The bubble is about to pop

    7. Moving that goal post again. At some point investors are gonna be sick of throwing money into that bonfire.

In the not too distant future, all LLMs will be essentially the same. They will however remain insanely expensive to manage. Everything consumer side will end up being advertiser paid, like what happened with search engines. Google, and Meta have such a big advantage here it’s not even close. How is OpenAI going to monetize outside of B2B?

If I were given $207 billion I could also be profitable by 2030

    10. The jig is up. OpenAI was first on the scene but all the big players are doing the same thing now, and some of them are doing it even better. OpenAI will eventually fall to the wayside and become some side nuance. Sam Altman is a shit CEO who should have seen this coming and come up with a better strategy to remain relevant as a tiny animal in a landscape full of predators.

    11. Any company that tries to spout about striving to be sustainable. But then this quote:

„More important, HSBC notes, these deals came without any new capital injection, and they are the latest in a series of capacity expansions that now see OpenAI aiming for 36 gigawatts of AI compute power by decade’s end“

They might as well say we do not care about the environment.

The Microsoft sustainability page is a complete joke.

How about they scale back their growth plans, narrow their focus and pivot to whatever application is closest to profitable.

Because I am sick of being told that I can’t have universal health care because we can’t afford it and then watching the government bail out these reckless businesses.

I’ve been using various LLM tools to program for the last 2 years at least, been a programmer for over a decade and honestly, I’ve been using them less and less. Even for menial work I find it both faster and easier in the long run to just do it myself right, and it’s more satisfying to do so. I’m kinda sick talking to an LLM all day, having it proudly produce shit code with both obvious and precocious flaws. With so much LLM written code polluting github now I doubt it’ll get better and may even get worse. Even as a huge optimist I’ve turned pessimistic about it, I don’t see a future where any of these AI offerings are that profitable.

Please bro, just give me another 207 billion dollars, we’re so close bro

    15. AI in its current form is one of the biggest grifts in history next to organized religion.
