Meeressäugetiere, die weit unter der Meeresoberfläche leben, sind nicht immun gegen die Belastung durch für immer giftige Chemikalien, wobei Wale und Delfine ein beispielloses Maß an PFAS-Kontamination aufweisen

    1. >The scientists analysed tissues from 127 animals across 16 species of toothed whales and dolphins in New Zealand waters, from bottlenose dolphins to deep-diving sperm whales. For eight of the 16 species, including New Zealand’s endemic Hector’s dolphin and three species of beaked whales, this was a global first for PFAS assessment. The researchers looked at how the acquisition of forever chemicals varied according to species, sex, age and the habitat in which they predominantly live and feed.

      >“Even offshore and deep-diving species are exposed to similar levels of PFAS, highlighting how widespread pollution, compounded by climate-driven stressors, poses a growing threat to marine biodiversity,” he said.

This is an unfortunate finding in an unfortunate timeline. I wonder to what extent PFAS and the hundreds of variants harm ocean ecology, and how much pollution goes unreported.

This is no surprise?! Why should they be safe? Even if the distance to the surface matters, they still spend a significant time at the surface. Also, they are at the end of the good chain and their fat accumulates PFAS.

      Misleading heading.

Modern humans: far far too clever and selfish for their own or anyone else’s good.
