Even though I don’t approve of it, the headline is not accurate.
They are under the Flag of convenience, basically the poor countries who let you register with them for a fee and look the other way.
Sbu should sink some of those false flagged vessels
US: Yo India, dont buy oil from Venezuela
India: Okiz
US: Yo India, Dont buy from Iran also
India: Umm, Ok
US: Yo India, dont buy from Russia also
India: Sure, let me fill my tanks with Coca cola and just run my 1.4 billion–people economy on friendship bracelets and good vibes.
The best response to this is a lower price floor for Urals oil.
We can’t force them to stop buying Urals entirely, but we can incentivize them to buy it for cheaper. If enough countries agree to fall in line, then the oil really will become cheaper. The price cap has already worked- Urals is measurably cheaper than Brent, and sits just barely above the price cap.
Cheaper oil benefits everyone except Russia. Neutral states get cheap oil, the west gets to see Russia’s finances bleed. Only Russia loses.
COVID hits. Sanction all of India’s oil partners first. U-R war hits. Eu takes away all the non russian and unsanctioned oil. Beg india to take russian oil to keep prices stable. India takes the oil. New us prez in. Why India taking all the oil? Tariff india! Why is india still not adjusting to our demands? It’s only 1.4bn people they need to worry about.
Europe was happily importing billions of dollars of fuel from Russia for almost a decade after the Crimean invasion, they didn’t give a shit about „funding Russian war machine“, they only cared about cheap fuel for their own people.
But somehow India (and the rest of the world) is supposed to suddenly impoverish their own kids, suffer under higher cost of food, malnutrition, higher cost of living, lower industrial capacity, unemployment etc – basically suffer because two European countries are having a territorial dispute?
Meanwhile, Europe *still* imports a marginal amount of LNG from Russia. Still. In the year of our Lord 2025.
The lion, the witch and the audacity of this bitch
>false-flag vessels
You’ve made a mistake in „ships of different countries.“
