Honest question: Do the First Nations actually have veto authority here? They say there can be no exceptions to the tanker ban, however the federal government are the ones who enforce the ban. My general understanding is that a duty to consult has to be done in seriously and in good faith, but that there is not a duty for consent. Though maybe this is different in BC? I know the lack of treaties there have given First Nations more power relative to other provinces.
I’m just not sure how this all works.
