the most surprising thing is the fact that indiana has decent school districts, and ive never seen corporal punishment in action

      not yet, anyway

Oh man, the fact there are states where they only hit kids with disabilities… seems cruel.

Look at all those “small government” states begging their government employees to beat kids.

Even where it’s technically legal, it’s not really practiced anymore.

Ah, is that why they want teachers armed? So they can gunbuck little Timmy?

    6. I remember my woodshop teacher Mr. Turner’s paddle. It had holes drilled in it. I got swatted countless times. By the end of my senior year I had the honors of signing the paddle.

    7. Isn’t Wikipedia supposed to be unbiased? What’s with this color scheme?

    8. I love how every time you look at a thematic map of the USA, any „traditional value“ stuff is much higher in the South.  At the same time, you look at maps about quality of life, and the South is behind.

Does it ever occur to anyone living there to ask why life is a giant pile of turd down that way if they’re doing everything morally correctly?

Like, if you beat your kids at school like you’re supposed to, how come they do worse in school than kids in Massachusetts?

Red states are the best. Orange is okay but we must discipline children. Children aren’t being disciplined nowadays. It is shocking. It is due to negligent parents and those who think children are perfect all the time. It is not abuse to spank. I was spanked many times and became better because of it. Those who are not punished and spanked grow up with a lot of issues.

    10. Texas teacher here, any staff member who hit a student would be fired immediately. If there actually are schools in Texas that allow corporal punishment, they’re a fringe minority.

We didn’t need corporal punishment in the south. We all know our parents would do it at home if we misbehaved

    12. I went to middle school in Florida in the 70s. Being paddled wasn’t the worst thing. The worst thing was seeing the look on your classmates faces later. You would be teased and humiliated for days.

    13. It’s unbelievable from where I live (NL) to think that corporal punishment still can be performed legally, like here it’s been banned for **205** years now in schools. There’s really no reason to cling onto such barbarian practices today.

(it must be noted that corporal punishments, albeit illegally, occurred until at least the 1950s in schools despite a 1820 ban).

    14. I had a first grade teacher spank me for making 4s wrong… It was a long time ago and now she is dead.
