Now we just need to decide whether it’s more dangerous to build autonomous killer drones which unilaterally decide who lives and dies, or not build them when your enemies are building them themselves.
We used to laugh at the premise of Skynet as „why would they choose to build something that could turn on them“, but living through the early stages of such projects right now, it becomes apparent this might be a pre-determined path with none having the real choice to stop it.
The reality is that drones are cheap to make, cheap to use, and a smaller army can keep a much larger army from running over it using the cheaper option that keeps the smaller force alive longer.
So, larger armies have to make so many of them that they can overrun the smaller force’s drones, then its humans. This will result in the development of better anti-drone communications technology which will increase the number of autonomous drones that don’t need human interaction. And then we have the world every sci-fi author has warned us about…
