I recently learnt that a spot that people use near me has never been registered as a bathing spot despite being used as one for centuries with the local shops selling fishing nets and towels.
I dread to think what the unmonitored ones are like.

That’s a recipe for a very serious – and very nasty – bout of vomiting, diarrhoea and very painful stomach pains… if you’re brave/ daft enough to go for a swim.

Sounds like the solution is another round of CEO bonuses and shareholder dividends.

„Of 449 designated bathing sites in England, 87% meet standards for “excellent” or “good” classification, an improvement on 2024, and 417 bathing waters (93%), were rated “excellent”, “good” or “sufficient”, representing a very slight rise on 2024’s standards.“
I agree that all sites should meet standards but holy hell negative title clickbait

Every time it rains we get sewage warnings on the south coast

Funny that the same story in /r/goodnewsUK is ‘87% of bathing waters rated excellent or good’ and in /r/uk it’s ‘one in seven rated bathing waters polluted’.

This is a very negative way to frame the story given the big improvement and that 93% of bathing spots were rated “excellent”, “good” or “sufficient

Cue the „back in my day the water was (so full of industrial pollutants it was) crystal clear“
