Das Wiegenlied für das Mittelland

Scheduled for 22:45 but reliably delayed to 23:00-23:30, a Boeing 777 to Sao Paulo takes off daily and ascends over much of the Swiss Plateau.
It’s my daily „oh shit, it’s this late already?!“ moment.

I’m curious to hear in which parts of Switzerland you hear it as well. That beast is loud af over Bern.

I do not hear that plane, but where we live based on the sound of the planes setting up their landing to Kloten I know how close to 06:00 it is. And I know if I do not hear planes and I do not hear the motorway it is after 02:00 but before 04:30 and I can fall back asleep.

I live 10 km from Zürich Airport and barely notice the planes anymore. Certainly I can’t tell the plane here from any other one.

The other really noisy one from ZRH, at a similar time each evening to the Sao Paulo flight, is the A340 to Johannesburg… makes a real racket sometimes as it takes off to the NW then gradually trundles around a big left turn.
