Well… in theory you can join the alternative service. In reality you either need to seriously prove that you have really strong beliefs, or probably should be a government family member or whatever.

I think, you need to prove that you are religious person such as Jehovah witness and other cults who forbid military participation. Best way to prove it is to talk to a pastor from church to send evidences such as letters proving you are indeed a person of certain beliefs and thus cannot be an ordinary soldier

      Edit: typos

    3. Hüquqi olaraq arxasına düşülsə nəysə etmək olar bəlkə də. Oxşar vəziyyətdən B. Hacıyev də zamanında faydalanmaq istəmişdi.

that means if you have lost your legs in a car crash, your service will be REPLACED with a form of service that you can provide

    5. Yes, conscientious objection (CO) exists on paper, but in reality the government will either **imprison you for CO** according to the Criminal Code article on evading military service (1-3 years in prison), or **forcibly draft you**. Every year, several Jehovah’s Witnesses get imprisoned in Azerbaijan for CO:

      >Despite international obligations, Azerbaijan continues to harass, prosecute, and imprison individuals whose deeply held religious convictions do not allow them to engage in military service. On July 16, 2010, the Nisami District Court sentenced 22-year-old Farid Mammadov to nine months imprisonment although he was ready and willing to perform alternative civilian service that is not under military control. There is no legislation in force to establish a mechanism for the Constitution’s provision of alternative service.

      Law 🤡

Well, good luck, it is easier to escape from the country or get a phd degree.

Law is for riches, protecting them from us.

    7. # 🇦🇿 What the law & constitution say vs. reality

      * On paper, the constitution (through Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Article 76) allows that if a citizen’s “convictions” make regular military service unacceptable — they could be permitted to do an alternative service instead. [President of Azerbaijan+1](https://president.az/en/pages/view/azerbaijan/constitution?utm_source=chatgpt.com)
      * However — and this is critical — **there is no functioning legal mechanism** in Azerbaijan for granting alternative service. Many independent sources note that although alternative service is mentioned in the constitution, **no separate “Alternative Service Act” has been adopted**, and thus **in practice nobody has been sent to alternative service**. [forum18.org+2Fakt Yoxla+2](https://www.forum18.org/archive.php?article_id=2695&utm_source=chatgpt.com)
      * As of recent years (2024), the issue has again been raised by the office of the Azerbaijan Ombudsperson Institution, which recommended that parliament draft and adopt an Alternative Service Act — meaning the gap between constitutional wording and practical law remains. [Apa.az](https://en.apa.az/military/azerbaijans-ombudsman-proposes-drafting-a-law-on-alternative-service-429307?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

**In short**: legally, alternative service *is recognised in principle*. But there is **no operative law or procedure** that makes it possible today — so *de facto*, alternative service does not exist.
