    1. He was a reasonable governor. For now, my hope is that America will have more politicians who don’t want to divide the people.

If I recall, he’s not a huge fan of the current crop of Republicans.

I remember when San Diego and Orange County were regarded as very red areas. Today, San Diego is blue and Orange County is, at best, purple.

    4. California is solid blue now. We’ll see a blue Texas before we’ll see a red California now.

Also, Schwarzenegger was a lot more liberal on social issues which helped him win.

Yeah, because it’s not a right wing religious zealot masquerading as a Republican. See governors of Vermont and Utah.

It’s not like California has so massively changed in the past 20 years. Trump is now the brand of the Republican party.

In 2004 Kerry won by 10 points, here in ‘06 Arnold wins by 17 points. That means Dems liked the guy. As another commenter mentioned, Vermont is very solidly blue and has a republican governor bc he separates himself from the national party

    7. I was in college and voted for Arnold in that election. I usually voted Dem but compared to his opponent Arnold was by far the stronger candidate and not a typical Republican. He governed like a fiscal conservative and social moderate which was a needed change at that time.

California will never vote for a republican in this lifetime! Even if the rest of the state except for LA and SF vote yes for a republican those two will stop it from happening. California is a forever one party state like communist China, authoritarian North Korea, or zealot Iran

    9. Damn the Marina went red? This is both on brand and shocking to see nearly 20 years later.

When anyone can vote in California that tends to change things fast.

I appreciate the zoom in on the metros, as well as properly dividing them up

Unfortunately for them, at least up to now, the Republicans will not be back.

Feel free to ban me for the lame joke

    13. This same year, Hawaii, Connecticut and Rhode Island re-elected their Republican governors, while Oklahoma, Wyoming and Tennessee re-elected their Democratic governors. In 2025 this seems unreal

    14. People don’t realize a lot of moderate democrats and independents also voted for Arnold. If he didn’t get the support of independents and moderate democrats, the outcome would’ve been different. Also a lot of democrats were not happy of democrat leadership during the early 2000s.

Arnold was a great governor who was able to work with both sides of the aisle and get things accomplished for CA

    16. There was a huge field of idiots running. Pill-popping-IQ lower than a hamster-Schwarzenagger was the best idiot of all them.

(Yes, Arny was (dont know if he still is) a seriously painmed addicted idiot that couled tell the difference between day or night. I’m glad his movies entertain you. But please do confuse the *actor* with the *person*)
