One is not like the other, China has lifted the vast majority of its people out of poverty while Russia is nothing but poverty outside of major cities (almost all the wealth is concentrated in Moscow and a bit in St Petersburg while the country side is utterly poor) and the Chavez and Maduro have raided Venezuela wealth for personal gain, more so than what Putin has done to Russia – so I really don’t get why Xi props these guys up, just for a counter balance to the west?

In 1902, Venezuela decided to not pay their debts. Germany and the UK decided to go occupy Venezuelan ports and extract their payment, but the UK changed their minds at the last minute. Right before the Germans got there (and the details are still debated by historians) Theodore Roosevelt supposedly told the Kaiser that the US navy would be meeting the Germans in Venezuela to stop their attempt. The Germans went home and nothing happened.

Before that, in 1868, right after the Civil War ended, President Grant was considering invading Mexico because they had a French dictator in power. The Mexicans overthrew him, and the crisis was averted.

The point I am trying to make is that, historically, the US does not tolerate foreign powers controlling affairs in Central and South America. Not only is Maduro ignoring democratic elections, he’s bought a bunch of weapons from Russia, China, and Iran.

So yes, Venezuela is probably about to be attacked and Maduro will be eliminated.
