It’s honestly baffling, if Trump was willing to extend ACA credits in the first place, why did he cause millions to worry about missing their SNAP payments and force over a million federal employees to miss their paychecks? If he was open to meeting Democrats’ demands on ACA credits, why the fuck didn’t he just do that in the first place?

    2. And just like that the Democrats now can pin the shutdown back on Trump.

Man, I don’t mean to both sides this but both sides political speaking are short sighted and just.. dumb

    3. An extension with new limitations on who is eligible for the subsidies, elimination of $0 premiums and a provision that says „anyone who downgrades their coverage under the new proposals would see the difference in costs distributed to a “Health Savings Account” provided with taxpayer dollars.“

So it’s an extension with some minor tweaks to make it look like they had a genuine reason for blocking the extension in the first place. 🤦‍♂️

      >two years…

Strategically positioning it for use as a political football for the next presidential campaign

    5. danceswithporn on

      >The president could unveil his new proposal as early as Monday … presenting a new healthcare framework and calling on Congress to send a bill to the Oval Office for his signature as soon as possible.

He’s still in the „concepts of a plan“ stage.

    6. This POS administration ruined millions of people’s lives for over 40 days of shutdown, just to give them what the Democrats were asking for from the very beginning.

    7. Squeekydink on

Too bad my insurance already doubled for next year. I’m happy for those under ACA though.

ACA works better than anything this current two bit dog n pony show can drum up

The congressional stalemate (shutdown) that lasted as long as it did? that was in order to scrub the Epstein files prior to the vote to release them which they knew was coming down the pike

      my 2 cents.

    9. AcanthisittaNo6653 on

That was the deal schumer offered during the shutdown, not that trump shouldn’t take full credit of course..

    10. centexgoodguy on

The Rs said, time and time again, that the Dems wanted the extensions to pay for the healthcare of illegals and trans people.

    11. So his healthcare plan is now to extend the ACA?

      Brilliant leadership /s.

    12. Specialist-Bug1592 on

See here’s the thing. Congress passed the BBB and which did not extend the credits. For them to be extended, Congress must pass a bill, which is in no way guaranteed. There is a pretty high likelihood that a poison pill will be inserted into the bill which will guarantee its failure and Republicans will blame the Democrats.

There is zero intention by the Republicans to actually extend the credits.

    13. hopefulskeptik on

So let me get this straight, president was unwilling to extend the benefits and have the government shut down for a month and a half. Now the same president is solving a problem that didn’t need to exist that he created a month and a half later. Why the f*** do we have a government if it just creates problems so it can solve it later?

    14. So, he shut down the government and shut down bipartisan discussion of the ACA extended tax credit for what?

Yes, I know. It was a diversion from Epstein.

But he does crazy shit all the time to divert interest in important stuff, did he have to cause so much economic chaos to stroke his ego?

      What a putz.

    15. Why not a title like “Trump bends the knee to Democrat demands to fund ACA tax Credits for two years due to recent polling numbers”?

This outcome is exactly what Democrats wanted and the opposite of what Republicans wanted during the shutdown…like complete opposite. No mention of flip flopping? Come on now…sane washing insane politics.

Like this line really pisses me off:

      > President Donald Trump planning intervention to stop expiration of Obamacare subsidies sending insurance premiums skyrocketing for millions of Americans

An intervention wouldn’t be necessary if Trump and the GOP simply never existed in the first place. This intervention is necessary specifically because of Trump and the GOP.

    16. My guess is that he tried to blame the shutdown on the dems, but the longer it went on the more people questioned it, saw the premiums spike for next year and put 2 and 2 together. That and the „its for illegals“ thing didn’t work out… I guess blaming immigrants for everything starts to have diminishing returns. So they were then left with fall out from the shutdown as well as fallout from people’s healthcare doubling or more.

    17. nightfall2021 on

I wonder how this will get sold to the Cult?

The GOP has been pounding the drum that the ACA is why their premiums were so high for the last month, and now Agolf Tweetler again just says something that contradicts the party and tosses them for a loop.

    18. It’s almost like they spent 40 days scrubbing through files and this was all for nothing

    19. Ummm…

Doesn’t congress then have to vote this in?

Or am I having a „silly me“ moment?

    20. Nervous_Mycologist15 on

Hey, huge hater of Democratic party leadership here. Earnest question…. Do I owe Schumar an apology? Did he actually do the thing?

    21. Are you shitting me?

      Are you fucking shitting me?

This asshat shut down the government for 43 days, causing untold pain and billions of dollars in economic damage, by refusing to ‚compromise‘ and stretch these subsidies out for 1 year, so that instead he can single handedly do it for 2 years? So the shutdown wasn’t actually about the subsidies, it was just about hurting people – having a little fun inflicting pain before the holidays?

      Are you fucking shitting me?

    22. HawkSalty2645 on

this isnt really an extension its a complete redesign, theyre adding income caps at 700% poverty level eliminating zero premium plans and forcing minimum payments. plus the whole health savings account scheme for people who downgrade coverage. insurance stocks jumped today but polymarket still only has this at 55% to actually pass congress given the gop pushback

    23. TheMoorNextDoor on

      What a fucking pointless shutdown.

People lost their jobs, and it didn’t benefit Democrats, Republicans, or the country what so ever.

      It accomplished absolutely nothing.

    24. Ok_Door_9720 on

Republicans told me that these subsidies are being used to cover Healthcare for undocumented immigrants.

Why would Trump support such a totally-real-and-not-made-up thing?

    25. Gentleman_Villain on

This bullshit was about him getting *credit* wasn’t it?

Fuck the people, fuck the chaos; he gets to have people say what a „great man“ he is for the „help“ he’s given.

    26. thatirishguyyyyy on

Trump says things and is usually lying.

This would require a bill to go in front of congress. They passed the BBB without the credits.

I’ll believe this when i see a bill.

    27. StrangerFew2424 on

Trump will claim credit for putting out another fire he started… rinse, repeat.

    28. It’s wild watching this play out. Forty-plus days of shutdown because Republicans refused to touch the ACA subsidies… and now Trump is walking out with the exact same extension Democrats asked for, just wrapped in a different slogan so he can pretend it came from him.

Millions of people were about to get hammered with premium spikes in January. Democrats held the line to stop that. Now Trump’s “solution” is basically the Democratic fix, plus a couple ideological stickers slapped on the side so he doesn’t have to admit he folded.

So after all the chaos, missed paychecks, and performative outrage, we’re landing on:
Obamacare, but with Trump’s name written over the label.

This isn’t policy leadership. It’s the political version of stealing someone else’s homework and changing a few words so the teacher doesn’t notice.

    29. PDXGuy33333 on

In other words, he’s hearing from Republicans that they are in fear for their political lives in the midterms and that if he doesn’t yield on this they are just going to resign and leave him hanging and looking like the fool he is.

    30. AmbitiousDistrict374 on

They could have avoided the whole shutdown by doing this in the first place, but this way Trump gets to take credit, and MAGA will eat it up.

    31. Page one of the republican playbook. Create a problem that didn’t exist, then take credit when you fix it.

    32. That was literally all the shutdown was about. I ask this all the time with this admin, but what was the fucking point? It was a losing issue for them, clearly. Same deal with the tariffs, if you’re just going to give everyone $2k, what was the fucking point in driving inflation up and taxing everyone in the first place? If you’re just going to roll the tariffs back, what was the fucking point? He changes his mind so frequently. One day he’s calling for Zoran’s arrest, the day after he meets him all he can do is sing his praises. A toddler runs the country, I swear.

    33. And just like that, he bought millions of votes from his base come Mid-Terms. And his cult will believe him that he “saved” them from those Meany Democrats.

    34. natural_disaster0 on

So my insurance has already announced the price hike and i already enrolled in a plan for next year that was much worse than the plan i had before because of the price increase — and this MFer announces it now.

    35. Impossible-Glove3926 on

So the longest shutdown in history was for … absolutely nothing except cruelty? This was one of the biggest things they were refusing to cave on, only to cave on it after the spineless democrats folded without getting anything in the first place?

Just when you thought Dear Leader couldn’t get any more incompetent he proves you wrong. His sycophants are going to cheer and celebrate him “fixing” the problem anyway, even though it was a problem 100% of his making just because he can’t stand that a far better president’s policies are still in place.

    36. He shut down the government over this and then caved. What an absolute joke. He put the country through that *for nothing*.

    37. horndog4ever on

Lol, Trump is on a sinking ship. All of what we went thru for when Dems wanted a one year credit extension. All because Trump couldn’t look like a loser. Trump isn’t a king, he is a fuckin toddler.

    38. SevereEducation2170 on

So they shut the government down for 40 days only to later give what Dems were trying to hold out for two weeks later, just so he can claim the credit for solving another problem he and his party created. I’m so tired, man.
