Back in 2016, when trump first ran, I believe the strategist made this proposition, there is a segment of the US population that if we give them belonging, they will gladly surrender critical thinking and will fall for anything.

Fast forward to his second term: prosperity is not here. we are chasing down immigrants to deport, but they are not the criminals, they are the people who are contributing to our society. Running restaurants, building homes, those things we have taken for granted.
Now, as jobs are shed, businesses are closed, costs are rising and the wealthy seem to absorb more and more wealth, some of that thought of belonging, wearing the red hat, seems to become what many of us saw from the beginning, the sign of the sheep, ready to be fleeced.

The problem created by Trump does not rest on the shoulders of the American people, if the republican party decided tomorrow that he was hurting the country and turned on Trump en mass he could be impeached and removed in days. They would just need to do what the GOP did to Nixon and say resign or be removed.

One thing the previous election has taught me is that Reddit, for the most part, is an echo chamber and it gives me false hope that people are actually changing. I’m an old fart who has lived in NC my whole life. Back in 2016 I was somewhat surprised that the good ol boys around here fell for Trump’s bullshit. I remember an era in which people would see right through someone like him and dismiss him as nothing more than a Yankee snake oil salesman. Ten year later and people in the rural south are still worshipping him. Go figure
1/3 of America always knew, 1/3 has already deified him and will never be swayed, and 1/3 might finally be starting to notice from behind their veil of ignorance and apathy.
