      Well good and all, but there’s still a very long way to come for the aircraft in UK service. Numbers are still low and slow weapons integration severely hampers their strike power. At the moment they carry AMRAAM, ASRAAM and Paveway – that lets them defend the carrier group as it conducts ASW operations in the Norwegian Sea but little else. They really need some weapons integrated, SPEAR and Meteor are both coming, and they apparently performed fit checks of Stratus so hopefully they follow through and integrate those weapons too which would give them really significant strike power.

      Europe now has three credible carrier battle groups embarking F35Bs or Rafael’s in UK and France, then two credible light carriers in Italy fielding F35Bs. All with solid Aster based Air Defence Destroyers and genuinely excellent anti-submarine frigates as escorts.

      Russia from a Naval perspective is an absolute joke vs Europe. It cannot field a single carrier group and even if by some miracle it did, it would be with 50 year old planes facing five with 5-10 year old planes.

      I don’t think people realize the scale of the gap. Its not even close at Sea or in the Air.

      Italy and the UK now have 250 stealth fighter bombers between just them. Russia has.. zero.

      The biggest problem is that the British dont have 3 carriers so that can one be in operations, one in repair and one in minor maintenance.

      Great news but…

      if it was actually „full“ then it would have a _complete_ crew, and it wouldn’t have 10-odd empty aircraft bays

      It’s just a shame we have to ask the current American administration before we actually use those planes for anything useful. We need European sourced arms.

      Hopefully with it, the UK can work with Europe to coordinate and protect our interests. And slap down a certain aircraft-carrierless bear.

      It looks like a couple of the F-35 airframes don’t like sea corrosion. It’s probably not great for the stealth coating.

      Who cares about carrier strike groups when you have population that you can just send to the meat grinder. We have fancy jets and missiles but do we have enough soldiers, tanks and artillery shells to get into a protracted ground war? If any hostilities happen we would need to decapitate them quickly and decisively.

      Nice to see the EU is able to project some power.

      I’m only famiar with the US style carriers, that can take off and land jets simultaneously. How do these (UK, British and French carriers) compare to the US one, and the new Chinese one? (Since there was this recent post on the Chinese one being a US copy but still not being able to launch and land simultaneously.)
