Ai outsmarted the judge?
>Cases of false precedents being cited in court cases have proliferated around the world.
This is why I absolutely don’t use AI in my profession. I’ve seen way too many instances of GPTs making up imaginary sources and references, or simply getting concepts wrong. The technology apparently has another 10 or 20 years to go because the accuracy hasn’t gotten any better.
It seems this should be an issue for the Bar Association. Anyone who submits fake citations should be censured. Repeated offenses and you lose your right to practice.
I’m more concerned that it’s being used at all
Dennis Denuto was really ahead of his time.
Gageler, the most senior judge in the country and the presiding judge on the seven-member high court, raised the prospect of AI playing a role in decision-making in courts and tribunals, a situation he suggested required the value of human judgment to be carefully assessed.
“These are existential issues,” Gageler said. “The need for the Australian judicature to grapple with them is arising as the pace of development of AI is outstripping human capacity to assess and perhaps even to comprehend its potential risks and rewards
Yeah so if you bother to read the article which none of you did
Its not the only thing he says about AI, he even says judges could use AI, but hey let’s all bite on one thing he said and run with it, …..pathetic reddit
