AI development is privately-funded Manhattan Project to develop world changing/world ending tech. The US government can’t risk individual states passing laws that would derail our race to beat the Chinese.
Let the White House sue the states then? If it wants a moratorium on AI regulations, the federal government can pass a law putting that moratorium in place.

Now when it comes to AI everyone supports an ultra-broken up eco system with 50 versions of Claude, 50 versions of cursor, and 50 versions of ChatGPT. And users having to navigate which version they’re allowed to use?

When these state laws are unconstitutional or could be successfully challenged on other grounds, the tech industry is very quick to challenge them in court on their own. It seems unlikely that there are state level laws that are actively restricting AI in a way that could successfully challenged in court and the tech industry didn’t see worth trying to challenge (since they figured they would lose) for the federal government to step in, so it is hard to believe that these lawsuits will go anywhere.
The government wants to make it illegal to protect yourself.
