    1. As someone who goes to Blanchardstown Centre on a regular basis, I seriously hope people start boycotting it. One of the reasons I love Blanch is the free parking. Charging will make me go elsewhere.

i dont know if this is the same case as my local shopping centre but basically similar to this it used to be free parking then they started charging

      why ?

the why is it was literally the only free parking lot in the center of the town and people were taking advantage of it ie parking all day and not spending money so i wonder if that is the same issue here

i want to clarify i am not siding with paid parking I’m just explaining why my local shopping center started doing it so maybe it’s the same reason here

They should be required to develop multi story facilities if they want to charge

Sure, look what they did with liffey valley , there was nothing wrong with the carparks, so an investment firm bought it and decided to freshen it up a bit and start charging for parking. There was a roundabout which worked perfectly now there’s traffic lights, which is making traffic worse. So people are now paying for less carparks spaces and more traffic , while billion dollar investment groups get richer . The sooner people start boycotting this shite the better .

Residents should be focusing their argument on how people who don’t want to pay the parking charges will clog up the surrounding areas, blocking access to their houses and endangering locals, particularly children.

I live close to Beaumont where staff and visitors have taken over the surrounding streets and just abandon their cars wherever suits them for hours/days at a time because they don’t want to pay the fees.

    7. Refuse to pay. Drive to the exit and block it until they let you out, there will be a line of traffic behind you so you can’t reverse to unblock it. Everyone doing the same will quickly put an end to it.

      Mass non-compliance.

It was granted originally on the basis of keeping the parking free as there are resources there like the library, council office, courthouse etc which are public amenities and should have free parking.

    8. Them lot acting like it will €25 an hour. You come to a shopping centre to spend 100, 200, 300 or more – what difference does a euro or two for parking make? If you are that concerned about the cost of getting to the centre then get a bus – petrol burnt in the queues to get a spot will cost more than a fee they’ll charge at the gate
